*General Description:*
Under direct supervision of the Birth to Five SRP Lead Cook, the Assistant Cook position is responsible for the provision of food service preparation, presentation and clean-up in such a way that high standards are maintained with the emphasis on menu appeal, maximum nutritional value, and compliance with all sanitation and safety protocols.
This priority will be accomplished through but not limited to the following activities.
*Job Duties:*
* Assist in food production and service as assigned.
* Perform daily and periodic cleaning as assigned including set-up and clean-up at meals.
* Abide by Health Department rules which apply to the kitchen and dining area including assistance in maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen general work areas, refrigerator, walk-in storeroom, restrooms, etc.
* Follow the Special Dietary Needs and Food Allergy forms.
* Assist with maintaining a current food and supply inventory, help unload delivery trucks and stock shelves.
* As needed, using an Agency vehicle, load and deliver snack/food and paper supplies to all Head Start sites.
* Help Lead Cook maintain daily meal counts, CACFP menu record book and food temperature logs.
* Perform all duties in a manner that supports the Head Start Performance Standards, NYSOCFS Daycare licensing regulations and Head Start Core Values.
*Minimum Qualifications:*
* High School diploma or GED.
* Specialized training in sanitation/safety and customer relations is desired.
* ServSafe certified or willingness to obtain certification upon employment.
* Experience in quantity and quality food production is preferred.
* Physical ability to stand for long periods of time and do heavy lifting (50 pounds) without restrictions.
* Current, clean driver’s license.
